Result of the 2002 Bundestag Elections converted to the present delimitation of constituencies

Result of the elections to the 15th German Bundestag on 22 September 2002 converted to the 299 constituencies as delimited for the 2005 Bundestag Elections

With the Seventeenth Law amending the Federal Electoral Law of 11 March 2005 (Federal Law Gazette I p. 674, 17th Amendment Law) and the notification on the delimitation of constituencies for the elections to the 16th German Bundestag of 21 July 2005 (Federal Law Gazette I p. 2180), the legislator specified the boundaries of the 299 constituencies for the 2005 Bundestag Elections. To be able to present comparative results for the 2005 Bundestag Elections, the constituency results of the 2002 Bundestag Elections were converted to the delimitation of constituencies valid for the elections to the 16th German Bundestag.

In cases where the delimitation of constituencies pursuant to the 17th Amendment Law combines territorial units for which no postal ballot results are available due to the allocation of postal ballot boards for the 2002 Bundestag Elections, the postal ballot results for the new constituencies concerned according to the 17th Amendment Law could not be calculated exactly. In such cases the postal ballot result for the territorial unit concerned (e.g. a municipality allocated differently by the 17thAmendment Law) is estimated in concert with the Land Returning Officers responsible. This was done by converting the percentage shares of the postal ballot result available of the lowest territorial level the territorial unit concerned is allocated to (e.g. the rural district to which the relocated municipality belongs).

A file containing the converted results (first and second votes in all constituencies) is available to you in csv format for further processing with a spreadsheet program at "wkumrechnung2005.csv".

The converted results of the elections to the 16 German Bundestag are also available as a download file, PDF 397 KB.
