To use the Atlas with the election results and structural data of the 2005 Bundestag Election (Online Atlas of the 2005 Bundestag Elections), the free SVG-Plugin 3 of the Adobe company is required. Please do not use any browsers with native SVG support or turn them off. If you do not have installed the plugin on your computer, you may start the download of the installation file under the following link: SVG-Plugin 3.
To install the plugin, you will need certain rights on your computer. As a private user you usually have these rights anyway. Otherwise please ask the administrator responsible to help with the installation of the plugin.

If the map seems too small to you, please switch to the full-picture mode of your browser. This can often be done by pressing the F11 button.
Please install the plugin. To do so, use the link indicated above in the general notes. All browsers and operation systems supporting the automatic installation of the Adobe Plugin should be able to display the Online Election Atlas of the 2005 Bundestag Elections without any faults.

Users of Mozilla (also Firefox), Opera and older Netscape versions have to adjust their computer configurations after installing the plugin. In most of the cases, these adjustments will enable a smooth operation of the Atlas.

We would recommend that Linux users should use Mozilla 1.7 because for that browser there is an automatic installation routine available from Adobe for the plugin. Please refer to the readme file of the setup package for the installation guidelines. Our tests have shown that the setup package for RedHat Linux works also under SuSE 9.

Javascript has to be activated for a smooth display. If you use the Microsoft Internet Explorer, in the menu: Extras -> Internet Options -> Security -> Internet -> Customer Level -> Scripting -> Active Scripting this can be achieved by selecting "enable".
The Online Atlas of the 2005 Bundestag Election was created in SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics). That is a format based on XML (Extended Markup Language) for displaying vector graphics on the Internet. SVG combines the advantages of Flash with the flexibility of XML. SVG is moreover recommended as a Web standard by the W3 Consortium. The attributes are also loaded with the help of XML. First the entire Atlas is displayed. Depending on the speed of your connection, the loading process may take a while. When you select a statistics afterwards, those data will however be downloaded much faster.
