61.9 million persons entitled to cast their vote for the next elections to the Bundestag
 

WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Returning Officer, about 61.9 million Germans living in the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany will be entitled to cast their vote for the elections to the 16th German Bundestag on 18 September 2005, according to an estimate of the Federal Statistical Office. About 32.2 million of the persons entitled to vote are women and about 29.7 million are men. The number of persons entitled to vote for the 2002 Bundestag elections was about 61.4 million persons. Approximately 2.6 million persons (1.3 million men and 1.3 million women) are for the first time entitled to vote for elections to the Bundestag. They are the young Germans who have become entitled to vote since the last Bundestag election, i.e. those born between 23 September 1984 and 18 September 1987. The age structure of persons entitled to cast their vote for the elections to the 16th German Bundestag will presumably be as follows:

 

2.6 million or 4.2% of all persons entitled to vote (men: 1.3 million, women: 1.3 million) are aged under 21 years,

  

7.5 million or 12.1% of all persons entitled to vote (men: 3.8 million, women: 3.7 million) are aged 21 to under 30 years,

  

10.2 million or 16.5% of all persons entitled to vote (men: 5.2 million, women: 5.0 million) are aged 30 to under 40 years,

  

12.4 million or 20.0% of all persons entitled to vote (men: 6.3 million, women: 6.1 million) are aged 40 to under 50 years,

  

9.5 million or 15.4% of all persons entitled to vote (men: 4.7 million, women: 4.8 million) are aged 50 to under 60 years,

9.6 million or 15.5% of all persons entitled to vote (men: 4.6 million, women: 5.0 million) are aged 60 to under 70 years, and

  

10.1 million or 16.3% of all persons entitled to vote (men: 3.8 million, women: 6.3 million) are aged 70 years or over.
