Basic information and data for the election to the 17th German Bundestag

WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Returning Officer, an article on the bases and data concerning the election to the 17th German Bundestag on 27 September 2009 entitled “Grundlagen und Daten der Wahl zum 17. Deutschen Bundestag am 27. September 2009“ was published in the latest issue of the Federal Statistical Office’s German-language journal “Wirtschaft und Statistik“.

The article explains the electoral law, the election procedure and the changes introduced in comparison with the latest Bundestag election of 2005. It also contains an overview of major results of earlier Bundestag elections including the distribution of seats, comments on excess mandates obtained, and informs about the legal bases and the compilation of representative electoral statistics.

The article has been published in no. 8/2009 of “Wirtschaft und Statistik“ and may be downloaded free of charge as a pdf file on the website of the Federal Returning Officer.

The complete issue 8/2009 of “Wirtschaft und Statistik“ may be obtained as a pdf file at EUR 7.50 or as a printed copy at EUR 15.90 each from the Publication Service of the Federal Statistical Office.
