The number of municipalities includes all towns not attached to an administrative district/urban districts, all municipalities belonging to an administrative district and inhabited land not subject to the administration of a municipality. Not included is uninhabited land which is not subject to the administration of a municipality.
Data relating to the area (territory) are based on the records of the surveyors’ and land registry offices.
Included are all inhabitants whose main place of residence is in the Federal Republic of Germany and foreigners registered in the federal territory (including stateless persons). Not included are members of foreign armed forces stationed in the Federal Republic of Germany and of foreign diplomatic and consular representations with their dependants. The population density of the respective regional breakdown is the number of the population divided by the area.
Updated results of the 1987 population census - former territory of the Federal Republic - and of the central register of inhabitants of the former GDR and Berlin-East.
This is the population change as the balance of vital events and migration. Vital events shown are live births and deaths, migration comprises arrivals and departures (across the borders of districts/of towns not attached to an administrative district).
Generally, the number of graduates/school leavers having completed compulsory full-time schooling at schools of general education is shown. Also covered are pupils who have attained the typical school-leaving certificate of a school type and change to another school type. Not included are external examinees.
Number of licensed vehicles with a registration number stored in the Central Register of Vehicles (ZFZR) maintained at the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) at a specified date when the vehicles are counted. Included are vehicles of the Federal Border Police and the Federal Agency for Technical Relief. In contrast, not included are vehicles of the Federal Armed Forces and with a red or special license plate (customs number plate for vehicles to be exported). The results of the table shown come from the Federal Motor Transport Authority located in Flensburg.
Included are dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings except for residential homes. A dwelling is defined as a complex of rooms in which house can be kept; it has to include a kitchen or a room with a fixed cooking facility, a separate entrance which can be locked, also water supply, a sink and a toilet. Between the censuses of buildings and housing, the stock of dwellings is updated using the statistics of construction activity.
Data refer to local units of manufacturing, mining and quarrying of industry with 50 employees and more and to local units of manufacturing, mining and quarrying of enterprises belonging to the other economic sectors with 20 employees and over. Also included are processing local units of the crafts sector.
The municipalities/authorities have to be notified of the starting up and closing down of a business as well as of any changes in performing the business. The obligation of notification applies to the principal place of business, subsidiaries and dependent branches. Excluded from the obligation of notification are primary production, the liberal professions and the mere management of one’s own property. Registrations include the start-up of a business, its reopening after relocation and the takeover of an existing business. Deregistrations comprise the shutting down of a commercial business, its moving to another district and its being handed over to a successor.
The trade tax revenue is the trade tax yield minus the trade tax apportionment. The trade tax yield is the amount paid in taxes by taxpayers in the course of a calendar year. The trade tax apportionment has to be paid by municipalities from their trade tax yield.
In an insolvency procedure, the property of the debtor is sold and the proceeds are distributed to satisfy the creditors of a debtor or arrangements are made to the contrary in an insolvency scheme to preserve the enterprise. Those who work at the enterprise at the time the application is filed are regarded as its employees. Small-scale trade has been included in this since 2002.
Presented are the debts of the municipalities and associations of municipalities excluding debts of public funds, institutions and enterprises. Included are credit market debt and debts with public bodies. The stock of debts does not include loans for strengthening cash resources, guarantees, internal loans, legal transactions similar to loans and the debts of local authority owned companies.
These are wage earners, salaried employees and persons in vocational training who are compulsorily insured under statutory pension, health and/or unemployment insurance schemes or for whom the contribution parts for statutory pension insurance are paid. Where data are shown according to the workplace concept, employees are allocated to the municipality in which the local unit they work at is located. Where data are presented according to the place-of-residence concept, employees subject to social insurance are shown according to their place of residence based on the information which was given to the employer. The commuter balance is the difference between employees at the workplace and employees at the place of residence.
Unemployed persons are job seekers not having completed their 65th year of age who are out of work or only perform marginal part-time work (less than 15 hours per week) and who look for a job for at least 15 hours a week that is subject to social insurance. Not included are pupils, university students and persons participating in vocational training measures, persons who have become incapable for work due to sickness and recipients of old-age pension. The unemployed must be ready to start work immediately and have personally reported being unemployed to the competent employment agency or a body responsible for basic security benefits. The unemployment rate shown here is calculated as unemployed persons in percent of the economically active civilian population in dependent employment (persons employed subject to social insurance and persons in marginal part-time employment, persons doing casual work, public officials, unemployed persons).
SGB II (Sozialgesetzbuch II - Social Code II) governs the granting of basic security benefits for job-seekers. Accordingly, all persons between the age of 15 and 65 who are capable of earning and in need of assistance and have their usual residence in the Federal Republic of Germany (individuals capable of earning and in need of assistance) shall receive benefits pursuant to SGB II. Also entitled to benefits are all persons living in a joint household with individuals capable of earning and in need of assistance and who are either below the age of 15 or are incapable for other reasons to work at least three hours per day (individuals incapable of earning and in need of assistance). The payments are meant to secure a living for the recipient.
Where towns are divided by constituency boundaries, the number 1 is entered for each constituency in which part of the respective town is situated.
The results presented correspond to the actual delimitation of the constituency in question except the towns divides by constituency boundaries. In 2005 the statistical offices of the Länder provided us with the constituency data of these towns. In 2009 the data was converted to the delimitation of constituencies according to the percentage in 2005.
The results presented correspond to the actual constituency delimitations only where constituencies are composed of complete rural districts/towns not attached to an administrative district. Where this is not that case, the results for rural districts divided by constituency boundaries have been allocated to the constituencies according to the percentages of the popuation of the concerning constituencies.
