President of the Federal Statistical Office

Press release May 20, 2009

Press service of the Federal Returning Officer on the day of the European election

As reported by the Federal Returning Officer, a comprehensive press service will again be provided for the European election on 7 June 2009:

All press releases will be distributed as usual via fax, Internet, e-mail and ots service.

On election day, the Federal Returning Officer and his staff will stay in the German Bundestag in Berlin until the provisional result has been announced. In the West Lobby of the Plenary Chamber level, a presentation area will be set up where the Federal Returning Officer is going to make his official statements (intermediate result for voter turnout and provisional result). Staff of the Federal Returning Officer will be on the spot to answer further questions until the official provisional result has been announced.

IMPORTANT: As a rule, representatives of the media require an accreditation in order to work in the buildings of the German Bundestag. For persons who have not been accredited on a permanent basis, an accreditation for 7 to 8 June 2009 may be issued by the Press Office of the German Bundestag from Monday, 25 May 2009. As the staff responsible for accreditation will not be on duty on election day, interested representatives of the media must have collected their accreditation by 5 June 2009, 1 p.m. at the latest (at Schiffbauerdamm 17, 3rd floor). For further information please contact the Press Office of the German Bundestag, tel. (+49-30) 2 27 - 3 29 24 and - 3 29 29 or fax (+49-30) 2 27 - 3 60 45 and - 3 62 45.
