2009 European election: Voter turnout by 2 p.m. and provisional election result
WIESBADEN – On the occasion of the election to the European Parliament next Sunday, 7 June 2009, the Federal Returning Officer is going to announce the “intermediate result for the voter turnout by 2 p.m.” in the afternoon and the official provisional election result for Germany on election night.
The “intermediate result for the voter turnout by 2 p.m.” will be established on the basis of the voter turnout in selected polling stations. The result is expected to become available around 3.30 p.m. and will be released by the Federal Returning Officer at that time.
For the European election in Germany, the polling stations will close at 6 p.m. Then the electoral committees will start counting the votes at the polling stations.
The Federal Returning Officer may announce the official provisional election result for Germany after the end of voting in the other European Union member states at the earliest, that is not before 10 p.m.
If institutes specialising in election research publish extrapolation results on election day after 6 p.m., but before the official provisional result will have been announced, these will be evaluations of voter interviews after voting and of the public counting of votes cast at individual polling stations.
