Voter participation in the 2009 European elections at 2 p.m.

WIESBADEN/BERLIN – 20.2 percent of the persons entitled to vote have exercised their right to vote in the European elections in Germany by 2. p.m. today. The votes cast by postal voters have not been included yet.

The Federal Returning Officer has ascertained this interim voter participation in Germany in co-operation with the Land returning officers on the basis of voter participation in selected polling stations.

In the 2004 European elections, voter participation before 2 p.m. was 20.4 percent; total voter participation was 43.0 percent.

The Federal Returning Officer calls upon all persons entitled to vote who have not cast their ballot yet to exercise their right to vote. The polling stations will still be open until 6.p.m..
