Constituency or district electoral committee
At
Bundestag elections there are constituency electoral committees. A joint constituency
electoral committee may be formed for serval neighbouring constituencies; the land returning
officer shall issue the order.
The members of the constituency electoral committee shall be appointed by
the constituency returning officer. The committee is composed of the constituency
returning officer as chairperson and six committee members. They shall meet in public session.
The duties of the constituency electoral committee are:
- to decide on directions given by the constituency returning officer concerning the elimination
of defects in constituency nominations,
- to decide on the admission of constituency nominations,
- to scrutinize decisions taken by electoral boards in the polling districts,
- to ascertain which second votes shall be disregarded by way of exception pursuant to the second
sentence of Section 6 (1) of the Federal Elections Act and from which Land lists these votes
are to be deducted,
- to ascertain the number of votes cast in the constituency and to declare which candidate has
been elected as the member representing the constituency.

European Elections there are district or town electoral committees.
The members of a district or town electoral committee shall be appointed by the respective
returning officer. The committee is composed of the district or town returning officer as
chairperson and six committee members. They shall meet in public session.
The duties of the district or town electoral committee are
- to scrutinize decisions taken by the electoral boards,
- to establish the election results in the district or urban district.
