Land lists
In
Bundestag elections,Land lists are nominations of parties. Other political associations may
not submit Land lists for Bundestag elections. There are no federal lists, as they are called, in
Bundestag elections.
Parties which have not been continuously represented in the electoral area by at least five
deputies in the German Bundestag or a Land parliament on the basis of nominations made by the party
itself must present one per thousand supporting signatures of the registered voters in the
respective Land at the last election to the German Bundestag, but of not more than 2,000 persons
entitled to vote.
In
European elections, Land lists are nominations of parties and other political associations
which only run for election in one Land or in several Länder, but not in all Länder (= federal
lists or joint lists for all Länder). The respective Land returning officer is responsible for the
Land lists. The Law does not rule out the possibility of a party submitting 16 Land lists instead
of one federal list.
Parties which have not been continuously represented in the electoral area by at least five
deputies in the European Parliament, the German Bundestag or a Land parliament since the last
election to that assembly on the basis of nominations made by the party itself, and other political
associations must present signatures of one per thousand of the registered voters at the last
elections to the European Parliament in the Land concerned, but of no more than 2,000 persons
entitled to vote.
