Land electoral committee
The Land electoral committee is composed of the Land returning officer as chairperson and six
committee members. The members shall be appointed by the Land returning officer.
The Land electoral committee shall continue to exist after the general election but not
beyond the end of the legislative term. It shall meet in public session.
At
Bundestag elections, the duties of the Land electoral committee are, among others:
- to decide on the admission of Land lists
- to add distinguishing designations to Land lists if the names of parties or their shortened
forms may be confused
- to decide on appeals lodged against the approval or rejection of constituency
nominations
- to establish the final result of the election by Land list for the Land.

At
European elections, the duties of the Land electoral committee are, among others:
- to exercise the right to lodge an appeal against instructions given by the Land returning
officer in proceedings for the rectifying of faults
- to decide on the admission of the lists for the Land concerned
- to establish how many votes have been cast in the Land for each nomination
- to add – if necessary - distinguishing designations to the names of parties or other political
associations entitled to submit nominations, to their shortened forms, keywords or appendages.
