Candidate-centred election

The candidate-centred election is a type of majority voting, for instance in Bundestag elections, where the candidate is elected who has obtained the majority of the votes cast in a constituency. The deputy elected thus receives a direct seat, as it is called, and is the representative of that constituency. This kind of election aims to elect a politician not only because of his or her political program but also because of his or her personality.

Being person-centred, majority voting thus ensures a close personal relationship of the deputy with the constituency where he or she has been elected.
