European Parliament election 2019

Information on Brexit

On 29 March 2017, the United Kingdom notified the European Council of its intention to leave the European Union (“Brexit”). This started the 2-year process after which the withdrawal from the EU was to take legal effect. In March and April 2019 the United Kingdom applied for an extension of that 2-year period. Then the European Council decided on 11 April 2019 to extend the withdrawal period until 31 October 2019 at the latest. That period is intended for ratification of the withdrawal agreement between the United Kingdom and the European Council.
