Federal Electoral Committee to decide on appeals on 1 August 2013

WIESBADEN – At its second meeting in preparation of the Bundestag election, the Federal Electoral Committee will decide on appeals against the Land Electoral Committees’ decisions of 26 July 2013 on the approval or rejection of Land lists. The Federal Returning Officer also reports that the meeting will be held in public in the German Bundestag building in Berlin, Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus (entrance Adele-Schreiber-Krieger-Straße 1), room 3.101 (Anhörungssaal), on Thursday, 1 August 2013, at 11 a.m.

Parties may lodge an appeal against the relevant Land Electoral Committee’s decision to reject their Land list until midnight today. Land Returning Officers may also appeal against a decision by which a Land list is approved in their Land. The Federal Returning Officer will invite the spokespersons of the Land lists concerned and the competent Land Returning Officers to attend the meeting. All persons concerned attending the appeal proceedings will be heard. Following the meeting, the Federal Returning Officer will announce the decision on the Federal Electoral Committee.

Information about the individual appeals on which the Federal Electoral Committee is to take a decision will be published by the Federal Returning Officer in another press release on Tuesday, 30 July 2013.

Important notes:

Those wishing to observe the meeting will have to pass security checks before entering the Bundestag buildings and have to show their identity cards.

Unless they are permanently accredited with the German Bundestag, media representatives will have to seek prior accreditation with the Press Division of the Bundestag: http://www.bundestag.de/presse/akkreditierung/index.html. There, you can download the relevant application form. During parliamentary summer recess until 30 August 2013, the opening hours of the Akkreditierungsstelle (accreditation unit) of the German Bundestag are the following:

  • Monday: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 3 p.m.
  • Tuesday to Thursday: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.
  • Friday: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
