After the decision of the Federal Constitutional Court: 54 parties can participate in the 2021 Bundestag Election
WIESBADEN – According to the decisions taken by the Second Senate of the Federal Constitutional Court which were published on 27 July 2021, 54 political parties can now take part in the Bundestag election of 26 September 2021. The complaint of one party against the decisions taken by the Federal Electoral Committee was successful.
On 8 and 9 July 2021, the Federal Electoral Committee decided in public session that 53 parties could take part in the Bundestag election of 2021. Then 20 parties lodged complaints with the Federal Constitutional Court as they had not been recognised as parties for the Bundestag election.
In 19 of the proceedings, the complaints lodged with the Second Senate of the Federal Constitutional Court were unsuccessful. The Deutsche Kommunistische Partei (DKP), in contrast, was recognised as a party entitled to nominate candidates for the election to the 20th German Bundestag.
This is the resulting list of the parties which will participate in the Bundestag election of 26 September 2021:
